Why study God's Word?

There are many reasons presented to us in the Bible, but Don's text this morning was out of 2 Timothy 3:14-17.

When taught, read, and learned, God's Word, "leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." v.15

We study God's Word "for teaching" which shows us what is right and His way to live.

We study God's Word "for reproof" which shows us what is wrong in our lives.

We study God's Word "for correction" to show us how to correct what is wrong.

We study God's Word "for training in righteousness" that teaches us how to live a life pleasing to God.

As the Bible says, "17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

We don't have to wonder or guess at how God wants us to live.  We have the joy and the responsibility to read His Word and learn.

As we feast on God's Word daily, our spirits are fed and we learn and grow in the knowledge and truth of that word, striving to live accordingly.  This is our sanctification process:

23May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV)

As we are faithful to study God's Word, He is faithful to work His righteousness in us through the gift of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ and through the work of the Helper He gives us, The Holy Spirit.

I appreciated so much when Don said, "If the only time you hear God's Word is when you come to church on Sunday morning, you're going to starve to death."

Don did a great job of challenging us to daily read and meditate on God's Word.  If you are just getting started or if you are cramped for time, trying reading the Daily Bible Verse in the sidebar of this blog.  Meditate on it and let the Holy Spirit teach you what it means.  If you have questions, feel free to comment as your comment comes first to my email address and I will not post it if you don't want your comment posted.  If I don't know the answer to you question, that will be great and we will find the answer together!!
