Don was scheduled to preach this morning at
where Chris Kilpatrick is the pastor. Chris is also the president of the board of directors for Christian Resort Ministries, International and we’ve been looking forward to seeing them today. Due to various and different activities taking place this weekend, the four of us were the only ones at church, which turned out to be just exactly what the four of us needed. God knew. Don did “preach” but it was more like a Bible study or just a time of encouragement as we sat and just had a great time in the Lord. We called our study the Eight Steps of Truth:
2 Peter 5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
Each one builds on the other one, but it all starts with a foundation of faith in God’s promises, and if it doesn’t, we can’t accomplish any of the other seven steps and it isn’t pleasing to the Lord. It was great to be reminded to keep the main thing the main thing.
Chris and Vickie had to return to their family reunion for lunch, but promised to come visit us later in the afternoon. I took this fabulous picture before we left the church. I wish you all could meet them and experience their encouraging hearts.
Don and I came back to the Q and had warmed up leftovers from Pete’s Place and the next thing we knew we were waking up and Vickie and Chris were knocking at our door. Their son, Clint and grandson, Jantzen, were swimming in the pool so Chris walked across the street and brought Jantzen back so we could meet him. He’s such a handsome 2 1/2 year old. Poor little guy was all wet and now there’s a strange lady wanting to take his picture. Afterwards, he smiled at us.
We had more wonderful time with Chris and Vickie before they had to leave to visit another couple from the church.
Don and I went to fill up with gas and have a burger just as the sun was setting.
Speaking of faith in God’s promises…. do I have this much faith?
Psalm 91:7 Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
Father, help me to build each of the 8 steps of truth into my life as I trust You and believe Your promises.
