Don had a good birthday yesterday. A good friend called him and they planned a day in his new-to him Cesna 172 the very next non-windy day. Don's excited. While he napped in his recliner, I went to get the kiddos at school and then we came back to pick up Papa Don and go to their house. It was windy on the west side of Norman and it was cloudy on the east side.
It was a nice evening. I fixed dinner and Don went to Cowboy Church as he was preaching there last night. They serve a meal on Wednesday nights, so he ate there. They also surprised him with a birthday cake. I'm bummed that I missed it and didn't get pictures.
After dinner, Blaine did his homework. For kindergarten, reading two pages five times each was pretty good and he did a really good job. They wanted to swim but the water is still too cool. Mike only opened the pool this past weekend. So Blaine got a few bugs off the top of the pool. He loves to do that kind of work. While Blaine "worked" Lydia and I played. in the wind.
We said goodbye to American Idol contestant Brooke White from Phoenix last night. She's such a cutie and one of Don's favs. We hated to see her go. I called Snookie afterwards, but she was watching it and wouldn't let me tell her who got voted off. I didn't much care for David Cook in the first shows, but he has really proven himself and can take any song and make it his on. I think he's the one to beat and will be surprised if he doesn't win.
This morning, we had devotionals together. Lydia is especially missing her parents and thinking that two weeks is a long time. She seemed to be more at peace after we read the Bible, I read a short children's devotional and we prayed together for LaNae and Mike and for their day at school asking God to help them want to make good choices and be obedient. It was a sweet time for us.
When I got back from taking them to school, Don was ready and on the phone, still getting birthday wishes from friends. So I entertained myself watching Timmy, the cat. He's actually a very beautiful cat and quite playful. Don and I went over to Mama Trudy's for lunch a little game of "Shoot the Moon" before we picked the kids up at 3:00. Her irises are in full bloom now. It was in the 90's today, so the kids wanted to get in the pool. Lydia was the first one in. Followed closely by Blaine, who needed just a little coaxing but not much. He was soon making a big splash. Oooops, there's a bug. (Marley drinks the pool water! dumb dog.) They played in the water for an hour and a half... probably too long. By now, it's warmer in the pool than out especially with the wind being so strong. Blaine loves the goggles. One more pose by the pool. After dinner, it was time for a little hoops. She's 10. When I came out, Don was playing basketball with Lydia. I was so concerned about him exerting himself, that I didn't get any pictures. He can hardly tolerate sitting & watching when someone is playing basketball.... loves it.... loved it.... was good at it..... was know as "Mr. Basketball" back in the day..... a regular gym rat.
Kids are going to sleep good tonight... all four of us.
So much for sleeping good. A little after 2:00, I was awaken by the thunder and HAIL.... nickel size, maybe some larger. See it on the deck? Earlier, there had been a tornado warning up in OKC, just north of us.
