Canyon Lake & the Dolly Steamboat

The day dawns cloud free and beautiful. Jack & Cathy picked us up at 9:00 a.m. and we headed for the Superstition Mountains, Canyon Lake and the Dolly Steamboat. To get to the Dolly Steamboat, we had to cross two one lane bridges. This is a view from the back seat of Jack & Cathy's Dodge Ram. There it is, the Dolly Steamboat. We're all settled on the top level of the steamboat and camera is ready to capture the many mountain goats we just know we are going to see. We decide we better get our pictures before the tour starts because we're going to be too busy looking at the scenery when we get going. This is just one of many pictures taken. You just have to go see it for yourself. Every foot of the 90 minute tour affords a different view. I spent half of the tour scanning the rocks for mountain goats or anything moving. I did see turkey buzzards soaring and blue heron gliding across the water. HARK! Wildlife! This fat squirrel is feasting on a root on the rocks by the water as we leave the steamboat area. Eagle-eye Don spotted this little fuzzy tailed rodent. I promise, if it moves, he sees it. On the way to the truck, we saw these police bikes all neatly parked in a row. Some areas somewhere are unprotected. We missed the convention. When questioned, Don said he was just waving at the camera. We did have fun today. After the cruise we drove the two miles to Tortilla Flats, only to find a waiting line ten miles long. We were very hungry, so we drove back to the Old Goldfield Ghost Town and had a meal here. We spotted this little white chapel on the Apache Trail. The white whispy clouds make a very pretty background for this picture.Mountain goat sightings for the day: zero. A disappointing fact, but the day was a success anyway because we got to spend time with Jack & Cathy.
