Cactus, Doctor & Car Wash

On our way to the VA Health Center in Tucson & the dermatologist, we detoured through the Saguaro National Park. It was a quick trip with no walking the trails because LaVon wore flipflops and the wind was too cool for two people without jackets. We were really prepared. Even so, I got some good pics and we plan to go back to the Museum trail another day. This was an amazing flowering bush. The blooms looked like pink dandelion flowers. Click on the picture to make it larger and you will see what I'm talking about.

Don beside a Barrel Cactus. LaVon in front of her favorite, the ocotillo. (it's behind the tree) Do you understand why this is called the Fish Hook cactus? The parking lot was almost completely full at the museum and one and half mile trail. Field trip kids, tour buses, groups, people everywhere. More interesting blooming trees... and wild flowers or maybe these aren't wild flowers, but they sure are pretty. Don't feed the coyotes?? Surely they mean "Don't leave food for the coyotes." Who would feed a coyote? There are people walking around who would hand feed a wild coyote? The coyote has more sense than that! Don's appointment at the VA Health Center wasn't until 3:00 pm, so our next stop was lunch. Here, I'm going to plug a very nice Mexican food restaurant, Los Portales, just opened three months ago. Ambience and decor was tastefully done... no pun intended. The food was delicious and the service was good. If you like your hot salsa, hot, then this is the place for you. They also have a mild salsa for the more delicate palate. (sissy) Meet Ricardo Cazares, the proud owner and very hospitable. (He looked a lot like Mark Cuban.) The front door was huge. I said, the door was HUGE. Next, it's only two-ish, so we drive around a bit and then head to the VA Med Ctr for Don's appointment. We drove around the parking lot for a few minutes looking for a rare empty space, and a couple walking to their car, which was parked really close to the door, signaled to us that they were leaving. Thank You, Lord.

More good news, the "spot of concern" on Don's temple turned out to be only pre-cancerous and nothing to be concerned about. However, since we were already there, Dr. Leyva froze it and two other small places on his face & ear, and sent us on our way.... 30 minutes before time for Don's scheduled appointment. Now, that's a first.
We took the same route home, through the Saguaro National Park. Along the way, we saw a lot of flowers that looked a lot like the Texas Bluebonnet. When we get to Texas in the Spring, I will be able to take pictures and compare the two flowers.Staying off of Interstate 10 as much as possible, we drove through Eloy on the way home. Another plug: If you need your car washed, the folks at the CAR WASH in Eloy, right on Jimmie Kerr Hwy, do a really good joy for $10. A full detail, inside & out, is only $22. Hand wash. Hand dry. Don is happy again... his truck is clean and shiny. They did a great job. $10.
