This picture was taken at 9:23am, so you know that we were up at a relatively early hour to get on the road.
On the road to Greenville, S.C., his license plate says it all and the reason we passed him instead of vice versa.
I was on the phone with daughter Leslie when we crossed the state line, so just pretend this says, “Welcome to South Carolina and Enjoy the Blackberries!!”
We’re looking for a fruit and veggie stand.
Watch for Braking Gold Chevy Truck!! We stopped and bought a small basket of blackberries. After tasting them we stopped at the next stand to purchase more!!! Along with fresh cucumbers… remember previous post?
The blackberries made Don hungry, so we stopped at Bojangles… a first for us. We ordered eggs (2) with sausage gravy on biscuits (Don), one sausage egg biscuit (me), one blueberry sweet biscuit, one cinnamon sweet biscuit, and two cups of coffee. Five dollars and eighty-five cents? She must have missed an item or two. The manager came over and said, “Ooops, yep, it’s supposed to be $1585.00….. okay, you can choose which one you want to pay.” We’ll go with the $5.85 and thank you very much. And it was GOOD! So, Don decided we should just purchase fried chicken here for our picnic lunch for today up in the Appalachian Mountains.
Braking again! Tank isn’t empty, but might as well fill up here.
It’s a beautiful day for traveling.
Sure glad we aren’t pulling the Q! For several reasons.
We could see the interpretive center and were told that we could see the water fall and gorge close up from there. So we drove over and started walking… incline? Yep, incline. Too much for both of us, so we left without seeing the waterfall. By the time we got back to the truck, we were both exhausted.
We stopped at Burton Lake roadside park to enjoy our picnic by the lake. Don loved these boat houses.
And then we realized each boat house had a huge main house behind it, sometimes hidden by the trees.
Bojangles was really good with a slight “kick” to it. We enjoyed our picnic and the scenery.
Up on top of the Appalachian Mountains, we decided it was time to take the shortest route back to the Q. We were up so high we couldn’t see as far as we could see, for the haze.
And that’s the last picture for today. At this point, Don turned the driving over to me as he was tired. We got back to the Q about 6:30 PM and turned in after a quick supper and resting.
Thank you, Lord, for safety and beautiful road trip to places we’ve never seen before.
