South Carolina, Georgia and back to the Q

This picture was taken at 9:23am, so you know that we were up at a relatively early hour to get on the road.100_3456

On the road to Greenville, S.C., his license plate says it all and the reason we passed him instead of vice versa.100_3457

I was on the phone with daughter Leslie when we crossed the state line, so just pretend this says, “Welcome to South Carolina and Enjoy the Blackberries!!”100_3458

We’re looking for a fruit and veggie stand.100_3459

Watch for Braking Gold Chevy Truck!!  We stopped and bought a small basket of blackberries.  After tasting them we stopped at the next stand to purchase more!!! Along with fresh cucumbers… remember previous post?100_3460

The blackberries made Don hungry, so we stopped at Bojangles… a first for us.  We ordered eggs (2) with sausage gravy on biscuits (Don), one sausage egg biscuit (me), one blueberry sweet biscuit, one cinnamon sweet biscuit, and two cups of coffee.  Five dollars and eighty-five cents?  She must have missed an item or two.  The manager came over and said, “Ooops, yep, it’s supposed to be $1585.00….. okay, you can choose which one you want to pay.”  We’ll go with the $5.85 and thank you very much.  And it was GOOD!  So, Don decided we should just purchase fried chicken here for our picnic lunch for today up in the Appalachian Mountains.100_3462

Braking again!  Tank isn’t empty, but might as well fill up here.100_3465

It’s a beautiful day for traveling.100_3468

11:43 AM and back in Georgia.100_3473

100_3477

Sure glad we aren’t pulling the Q!  For several reasons.100_3479

We stopped to view the gorge.100_3481100_3483

We could see the interpretive center and were told that we could see the water fall and gorge close up from there.  So we drove over and started walking… incline?  Yep, incline.  Too much for both of us, so we left without seeing the waterfall.  By the time we got back to the truck, we were both exhausted.100_3492

We stopped at Burton Lake roadside park to enjoy our picnic by the lake.  Don loved these boat houses.100_3498100_3499

And then we realized each boat house had a huge main house behind it, sometimes hidden by the trees.100_3500100_3505

Bojangles was really good with a slight “kick” to it.  We enjoyed our picnic and the scenery.

Back on the road.100_3520

Up on top of the Appalachian Mountains, we decided it was time to take the shortest route back to the Q.  We were up so high we couldn’t see as far as we could see, for the haze.100_3525100_3526100_3527

And that’s the last picture for today.  At this point, Don turned the driving over to me as he was tired.  We got back to the Q about 6:30 PM and turned in after a quick supper and resting.

Thank you, Lord, for safety and beautiful road trip to places we’ve never seen before.

Beautiful pictures. I know why you took so many. I love that area. We used to ride our motorcycles in N and S Carolina. After seeing these pics, can't wait to go back. Love you guys. Glad you had a good time.
