Who wants to be a lineman?

There’s a local training center just a few miles from where we are parked.  As we drive by, we usually see “students” out being trained.  It’s the Southeast Lineman Training Center. It’s first class was held in February, 2000.

The Electrical Lineworker Program is offered three terms per year and they begin in January, May, and September. Students will participate in academic and field learning activities four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to 4:30 pm with a one-half hour lunch break.

The normal length of time to complete the Electrical Lineworker Program is 4 concurrent months (15 weeks) of full time enrollment. The Program is not flexible enough to accommodate part-time students. This program is approximately 500 clock hours in length. Students will start each morning in the classroom from 8:00 AM until 10:20 AM. Students will work in the field every day from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Program Cost:

Tuition                                     $7,700.00
Pre-Paid Lab Fee                         $750.00
Application Fee                              $15.00
ELP Training Manual                     $225.00
Climbing Boots & Tools             $1,790.00*
Certifications                               $525.00**
Total Costs                          $11,005.00***

If it wasn’t so hot, I would drive up and ask if they would allow me to take pictures while the students train at the various stations.  You can check out the website, however, and get all the details.
