Muskegon, Jim and Emmi

It’s going to Muskegon Day, today!!

Don thought he saw a rock in a tire, but upon closer examination found that it was a rather large screw, so he quickly drove into Cedar and got it fixed  before it went flat.  Another Thanks to the Lord for allow Don to see it before we got on the road.  He is so faithful to care for us and we praise Him.

So off to Muskegon we go, taking a few pictures along the way.  I know, you’re surprised.

000_0001Two of my favorite things in one picture: a blue spruce and a barn.000_0002

A really neat farm.000_0005

We arrive at Jim and Emmi Clevelands’ home parked right on Muskegon Lake.  So pretty.  At this point, I’m pretty giddy to see Ms. Em, our little German lady sweetheart.000_0004And there she is!!!  Isn’t she cute?!!!!000_0010Jim and Don shake hands and embrace; it is so good to see our neighbors from Sunscape when we were in Arizona.  They were parked right across the street from us and next door to Jim and Toma Chesness. (I had great timing with this shot because a gentlemen's hug doesn’t last very long!)000_0008Don is admiring their location.000_0009000_0011000_0021100_0028-1100_0029100_0030100_0030-1 100_0032100_0033100_0034100_0036 100_0037100_0038100_0039

What follows are the homes of the Humes and the Hackleys who obtained much wealth from the lumber industry.100_0040100_0040-1100_0042

Next door is the Hackley House.100_0044

Hey, let’s see who can have the most detailed work on their house.100_0044-1And let’s just throw in a stained glass window or two or three or….

100_0045

Around the corner, the side view.100_0047

And a side view of the carriage house.100_0048

At the Museum website can be seen a few pictures of the interior.

The sun was shining on the day >>these pictures<< were taken, so the quality is much better than mine..

“Poor” neighbors behind the Humes and the Hackleys had a nice home, but just not as elaborate.  Actually, this house was a part of the estate.100_0049

Then there’s the >>Hackley-Holt House B & B<< that we didn’t even see.

A few blocks away on the shore of the Muskegon Lake is a very mod condo.  Just doesn’t have the same eye appeal to me.100_0053

We’ve been in Michigan since July 15th and this is our first glimpse of Lake Michigan.100_0054

Sure feels like an ocean to us! Four foot waves, white caps and sandy beaches.100_0056

The guys started thinking about where to eat back when we were looking at Victorian houses.  I could have kept taking pictures of houses all afternoon….100_0057It really looks like I wasn’t concerned about my stomach doesn’t it???  Here, Sharon, is one is for you, Sweetie.  Homemade potato chips and a Maui Maui sandwich… very tasty.  But twice as much as I needed for lunch.100_0058

A couple of shots from the patio where we were dining.100_0063100_0070100_0064

Our wonderful host and hostess, Jim and Emmi Cleveland.100_0067

Can you tell we are having a good time?100_0069

Next stop, where Jim has done much work and many years of volunteering.100_0071Old Silversides is docked beside the museum.  Jim served on this submarine.100_0088

Well, as Jim explained, it wasn’t technically a submarine, but a submersible weapons vessel capable of getting to periscope level under water in twenty-three seconds.100_0090

This is the Coast Guard vessel that Jim Bowen served on.  Jim was our landlord in Arizona.100_0089

The museum was great and very interesting, but our time with Jim and Emmi was cut short by a call from the Red Cross where Jim is a manager and volunteers during times of disaster.  You may have heard in the news about the Medical Transport plane that went down in Lake Michigan a few miles north of Muskegon.  The pilot and co-pilot for almost fifteen years, have been making mercy flights for patients needing to go to Mayo Clinic.  Today, they were transporting a man and his wife and two medical professionals.  Only the pilot has been found thus far and he is in good condition, physically.  Emotionally, he will need much prayer.  Jim had to go immediately.

It was almost 3:30 PM and we needed to get back to the Q anyway.  It was great to be with the Cleveland's and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.

Back on the road, a barn in a corn field.100_0105Horses in the pasture headed for their barn.100_0106

Tonight, we went out to Thelma’s for a mini-concert put on by Thelma and her friend and partner in ministry, Sue.  Sue plays the piano, extremely well, and sings and Thelma sings, also.  I really don’t think you can call two solid hours of music a mini… we got the works!  What a great time and it was wonderful meet Sue and experience here talent and the combined talent of her and Thelma.  We sure enjoyed it.

We also got to say goodbye to LiLing who will be leaving Thelma’s next week.  Thelma has been a tremendous witness to her of the love of God.

Tomorrow, LeRoy, Michigan!

So glad you finally got to see one of the Great Lakes! Isn't it something? We do miss our Lake Erie at times. Especially when the fish are biting! Great pics.

Jim and Emmi were going to take us to the beach so we could walk in the sand out to the water, but Jim had to leave and we were kind of tired. We'll be going to Superior this week!
