Sightseeing

Shirley and her daughter, Debbie, are leaving today, so we walked over to tell them goodbye and pray for their trip with them.  They said they would be back this summer and we’re looking forward to seeing them again.100_3601

It’s overcast today with a breeze.  Nice walking weather.  I just love the Texas flags on either side of the park entrance. 100_3602 100_3603

Another rally is arriving and the park if filling up again. 100_3608

Shirley and Debbie are just about ready to roll. 100_3609

Don decided we should take a drive this morning, so we drove out of the park and turned left… never been that direction yet.  Not far down the highway, we saw this Catholic Boys Ranch on another portion of Johnson Creek.100_3610

From our vantage point on the highway, I could see where the sound of falling water was coming from.100_3612

The beginning of this story left off the fact that the Dowdy family brought in over 300 head of sheep to this area, which the area could not support.  Not reason enough to kill four of their children, however.  Legend has it that some of the most savage Indians in America lived in this area.

Next stop was a Texas Wildlife and Fish Research Complex, formerly built to be a fish hatchery.  Joe was our very nice tour guide.100_3619

There were many tanks like this one.100_3618

And many indoor vats.  Is that a tadpole?  Or is that what a very young fish looks like?100_3617

We learned the Texas State Fish is the Guadalupe Bass and was in danger of becoming more hybrid than pure, so they are working at keeping them purebred.  Thanks for the tour, Joe.100_3620

The road we took followed and wound back and forth across the Guadalupe River.100_3631 100_3622 100_3625 100_3626 100_3627 100_3630 100_3632

It’s not dead yet, so maybe there’s hope for it.100_3633

Poor folks have to live by the river lined with cypress trees.100_3634

Now isn’t that a nice horse scene.  Love this fence. 100_3636100_3638 100_3637

Just Hill Country scenes. 100_3642

100_3644

Again, we cross the Guadalupe River. 100_3647

We were almost empty are we would not be parked at this pump!! 100_3649

A tree I can not identify but the flowers a very pretty and orchid-like.100_3651

Inside the Hunt Country Store where we had lunch. 100_3652

Again. 100_3654

We’re now at the Point Theater. 100_3662

Of course, we want to go see The Buddy Holly Story. 100_3665

The Guadalupe River runs right behind the theater.100_3668

We have had a great afternoon of sightseeing around the area.100_3659

James 3:17-18

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Don't you just love the color of the Guadalupe River? We worked at Lake Pointe on Canyon Lake, very interesting...
