Travel post – Day 1

We are on the road again!!

Don was happy that we pulled out of Sunscape RV Resort on schedule… 8:30 AM.  Well, we were in the truck by 8:30 and after praying for our trip and Sunscape folks again, we pulled out.

Please say a prayer for Sunscape and for them to follow the Lord’s directing.  Pray for the chaplain and  pastor of God’s choosing to be at Sunscape and God’s blessing on him and his wife.  We sure love these sweet people of Sunscape and pray God’s very best for them.  It’s bittersweet to leave… so hard to leave people we love and who love us, yet so excited to see what God has in store for us and looking forward to meeting and serving more wonderful people.

Don is finally getting to scratch his hitch itch!100_0059

Our last view of Picacho Peak.100_0063

And the big U.S. flag over the Picacho Peak travel center.100_0064

Don’t you just love road construction?  No shoulder; reduced speed; trucks that think 55 mph is just a suggestion. 100_0069

9:32 AM – entering Tucson.

The Palo Verde, Ocotillo and Bird of Paradise along the highway are all in full, vibrant bloom.100_0071100_0095

The University of Arizona is in Tucson.  To give you an idea of how big the “A” is, see the white car beneath it?100_0075100_0076

Thank you, Tucson VA Medical Center, for Don’s new pacemaker.100_0081

9:50 AM – leaving Tucson.

11:20 AM – time for fuel.  Wilcox, AZ.

Leaving Wilcox.100_0097

For awhile, the ground was covered with yellow flowers.100_0098

12:14 PM – New Mexico!!  (correction:  1:14 PM)  Time change!100_0102

That’s not water.100_0104

This is water.100_0106

2:15 PM – back on the road after lunch at Kranberry’s at Lordsburg, NM.100_0107

New Mexico.  This is just about it for today.100_0110

3:16 PM – time for fuel at Deming, NM - $2.88/gallon.  Washed the windshield for better pictures, I hope.  Not a lot to photograph at 65 mph.  I’m already about ready to stop for the night.

Yucca's blooming, miles of them.100_0114

More yellow flowers and an old tire and wheel.100_0121

5:00 PM – we are parked in Las Cruces, all set up for the night and resting.  Don is searching for local TV channels.  No success, so we watched three movies:  Black Stallion, The Fly Wheel, and Griffin and Phoenix.

On the park site map was a “pond” situated across the street from where we are parked, so I walked over to check out the pond.  Hmmmm.  Somebody forgot to turn on the water.  It has potential though.100_0133

Read friend Peggy Bullock’s blog tonight and I’m so thankful that she and Bill are okay.  Read about their guardian angel at work today by clicking on the live link.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers for the safety of all of us travelers.

Our lives are never more secure than when they are abandoned to God.
