4:45 AM – What was that noise??? No way! We are in town!
I must admit, I did not hear him until after I had gotten up around 7:00. Don was awaken by his glorious announcement of a new day. I must say, roosters do take that verse seriously in Psalm 118:24 -
This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
9:00 AM – we were in the truck, praying, and then ready to roll.
9:15 AM – dairy territory. Pewwweeee.
More road construction, of course. But it’s a beautiful morning. A bit hazy and 68 degrees.
A nice shot of a church. Notice how green it is here, too.
9:30 AM – I missed the official “Welcome to Texas” sign! I forgot we were so close to Texas in Las Cruces, NM or I would have been ready. Arghhhh.
9:47 AM – entering El Paso, Texas
A few pictures of Old Mexico from Interstate 10 in El Paso:
10:17 AM – leaving El Paso, Texas. It’sa big place.
Thank the Lord for moderate traffic that was moving..
We are now in the Central Time Zone. Lost another hour.
11:30 AM – refuel, $2.80/gallon
We are now on that part of I-10 where everyone passes you going 85-90 miles per hour… you add at least 5 mph to the speed limit, right? We made good time, despite feeling like we were standing still all day.
This is a sight we haven’t seen in Arizona yet. The yucca’s are huge here and in full bloom.
12:30 PM – stopping at inspection station. That took ten minutes.
12:44 PM – Freeway is closed?! Detour.
Scenery: Yucca, sage brush and lots of hedgehog in bloom… red and few pink, but mostly brilliant red, which I’ve not seen before. Wish we could stop so I could take a picture, but this is the freeway… no stopping.
1:30 PM – stopped in Van Horn to eat lunch at Papa’s Pantry, Mexican food. Not bad. Excellent chips and salsa. That took about thirty minutes.
No music stations on the radio so we’ll just listen to my playlist on my blog.
Now we are seeing lots of orange Globe mallow along the highway.
We are loving this tail wind. Praying it continues.
Wonder how many people have taken a picture of this shell of a building? Trees are growing inside.
3:15 PM – time for fuel at Balmorhea, Texas.
I am amazed at the yucca’s. They are so pretty.
4:45 PM – arrived at Fort Stockton.
We ARE in Texas! (Sure wish I could have gotten a close up of these Fort Stockton soldiers.)
We stayed at this park three years ago.
They even have a cafe, The Roadrunner. Waitress and cook were eager to pose for a picture. The ribs were good, too.
Just puts you in a relaxed mood, doesn’t it?
We were so relaxed we decided to have an ice cream after supper.
Three years ago, this park was a KOA campground, but now it’s privately owned. There’s four of these nice little cabins.
There are a lot of Bird of Paradise bushes here and they are in full bloom.
We had a very pleasant day of travel and we are thankful.
Quail Run friends, do you remember Pam Miller, daughter of JoAnne and Don Miller? Well, we just received an email from JoAnnne and she reports that Pam competed in the local District Special Olympics and qualified to go to State in May in Omaha in all three things that she did in track. She’s so serious about competing that she has lost twenty-five pounds so far. Way to go, Pam!!! Bro. Don says to tell you “Congratulations!!” We are so proud of you and we wish could be there to cheer for you.
We just love getting emails and phone calls from all you wonderful friends!!

So glad you have a tail wind! The wind is terrible up here. They say it will last another 2 days. Talked to George and Nancy Reid tonight. They are doing good. Continue with the safe travels. And when you get to Georgia, give Momma Trudy a big hug from us. Love you.
The pictures really look familiar. The Pewwwee one is right across the road from where we camped overnight in Anthony or somewhere close to it. I remember the smell. Pictures are great even at 65!!
Hey All, how is that for "Texas Talk"!! Sure fun keeping track of you and your travels thru your blog. Continued safe travels are our prayers for you. Love you and miss you, LoPo & NoPo
