A Quick KRIS Update

To our dear friends and loved ones!

This update will be a bit shorter than most... at least I think it will be!  It will emphasize just how excited and truly happy we are that we brought Kris to Health South RIOSA last week.  In just this short time, she is walking more and much longer distances and with greater ease (as the attached photo shows).   Kris 10-13-2010She has started (just today) to work with a teaching tool on a computer in speech therapy and (with minimal assistance) was able to answer beginner questions identifying objects on the screen 100 percent correctly.  While she cannot say what they are, she can point to the appropriate words on the screen.

She has six 45-minute sessions of therapy each day, and is already winning the hearts of each therapist working with her.  She is driven and they see that in her.  The doctor of psychology at RIOSA asked if she would like to come into a group session yesterday, which truly did encourage Kris.  She met two other patients who are working very hard but haven't quite progressed as quickly as she, and I believe Kris realized for the first time what an encouragement she is to other TBI patients.  God is truly answering prayers and, again, we just cannot thank all of you enough for your continued prayerful support for Kris and her family.  I am humbled and grateful knowing that hundreds of you lift her up daily in prayer.

I would like to briefly mention our schedule, since so many of you have asked when we might return to Florida.  The truth is, we are really not sure at this time.  One thing we have done, after prayerful thought, is cancel our show cruise with Carnival next March.  I do anticipate we'll be back in Florida by the first of the year, but the show cruise would involve promoting, practice and planning even now.  Kris is our focus here every day, seven days a week.  We will likely return to Texas once our commitments are fulfilled in Florida, but next year is still very much in God's hands.

As for our accommodations here in San Antonio, the RV park is beautiful and quiet.  It is only 11 miles from the facility where Kris is, but traffic does make that seem a lot farther depending on the time of day.  We can handle it here, however, far better than in Austin!  The staff and Kris's doctor here are simply the best.  I voiced a concern to her doctor last Friday morning about an ongoing sinus problem Kris has had, and they xrayed her sinus cavities Friday afternoon.  Yep.  She has a severe sinus infection and she's on medication for that.  I suspected it since June because of the obvious symptoms, but couldn't seem to get anyone to listen.  It is very obvious that Dr. Onghai, Kris's doctor here, is fully dedicated to the progress of his patients.

Well, I did get long-winded again, didn't I?  It's just that we have experienced such a renewed sense of hope and excitement over Kris's care.  And she has a renewed sense of drive now, too.  That's very obvious.  All in all, it's another answer to prayer and we're extremely happy to see her blossom, even if it is still taking it "just one day at a time!"

Blessings and love to you all!

I think I spend more time just praising God for the progress Kris is making than I do praying that He will work.  I KNOW He’s working!  We are rejoicing at how, even now, God is using Kris to encourage others.
