Guess who woke up coughing, achy, sore throat and with a stopped up head? Yours truly. Not only that, I woke up before 4:00 AM drowning so, I just got up. While I was on the computer, I thought I heard a little precipitation... sure enough, when we got out to go see Wink & Dovie, this is what we found. It is above freezing, however.Wink and Dovie are long time friends of Don's. Wink and Don worked together when Don managed the 7-up bottling plant here and have been like family ever since. Sweet, sweet folks. After taking us to lunch at the Cracker Barrel, Wink took us on a tour of the country-side... he should have been a tour guide. He knows all the back roads. I had asked where the Branch Davidian Compound was and he said, "I show you." This new building has been built exactly where the old one was that burned in 1993. This is the new "sign" just inside the entrance to the property. A GoodSearch of this subject is quite interesting. These granite blocks have the names of all that were found after the fire that destroyed the compound. From here, Wink drove us the six or seven miles back to Waco and across the Brazos River to the downtown area. This is a suspension walking bridge across the river. A plaza by the river. On our return back to our park we cross Waco Lake and it sure looked gray, just like the sky. The entrance to where we are parked is just past the bridge over the lake. Tonight, Leslie, Emma, Camden, Don and I went to eat at a new Mexican restaurant in town, Don Carlos. Lydia loves to work all the puzzles. When was almost finished connecting the numbers, she announced, "It's a pepper!" This adorable red headed 'energizer bunny' is never still. Restaurant review: we were not impressed.
Since I'm not feeling the best and had been up since 4:00 AM with only a short nap, we came back to the Quantum and went to bed.
