Whoever heard of doing laundry on Christmas Eve? Oh, lots of people. Ok, I don't feel so bad, then. While I was getting our dirty clothes together to take over to Leslie's, I spotted our pet Japanese beetle on the mirror. He's so happy that he's escaped Kansas. He looks like a lady bug, but he's not. Yeah!, the sun is shining and it's really nice outside. A blurry picture of the Texas state bird, the mocking bird. Don did a little running around this morning looking for a missing grease cap for the Quantum, while I did our laundry at Leslie's. Khalil got home from Round Rock around noon... home for the holidays.
For dinner tonight, Leslie prepared chicken enchiladas to go with the homemade tamales that Khalil had brought from a lady who works for him at the Express Stadium in Round Rock.
Before we left to go to the Christmas Eve Candlelight service at their church, I got this great picture of Leslie and Emma by the Christmas tree in the living room. And Khalil and Emma. Camden would have not part of standing still long enough for a picture. At church, Emma was an angel. (well, she's an angel all the time.)The choir.Grandpa and Grandma telling the Story of the birth of Jesus Christ. The auditorium and balcony was full and it looked beautiful with all the candles burning as we sang "Silent Night." When we got back to the house, Santa's elves had left gift wrapped boxes of Christmas pj's for Emma and Camden. "Nonna!! Santa's elves have been HERE!!" They were so excited. Emma helps Camden with his box. Now, maybe we can get a family picture that includes Camden. Notice how mama is holding onto him. And every time his picture is taken, he wants to see the picture on the camera. So we only got two family pictures. He looked so handsome in his red & brown checked shirt and matching sweater with khakis. Leslie had made a matching sash for Emma's dress. So pretty.Mommy & Daddy by the tree. The kids couldn't wait to put on their Christmas pj's.
After our delicious Mexican Christmas Eve dinner, the kids went out front to leave reindeer food for Santa's reindeer. "Oh, Daddy, we have to put the key out for Santa." (for folks who don't have a chimney) (Years before Khalil ever married, he saw this key somewhere and thought about his future family and how it might come in handy.) That's Santa on the key. All evening, Emma kept checking Santa's progress on the Internet. It's bedtime for Camden and time for Emma to make cookies for Santa. (She's standing on a step stool)She really gets into this and she's quite good at cookie cutting. "Beautifully decorated!" Poppa Doppy: "Hmm, those cookies sure look good."
Emma: (picture a sigh, not wanting to disappoint but needing to get the point across) "Well, yes, but these ARE for Santa." Exhausted, Don and I finally left to go home, without cookies, and get some rest before our early rise in the morning to go back so we would be there when the kids got up to see what Santa had left under their tree.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
