Rain.
That's it.... that was our weekend.
Rain.
Except, today, we had church, of course, and that was wonderful. There's just nothing like the corporate worship of our Lord Jesus Christ with brothers and sisters in Christ. Do you know why we call each other Brother and Sister? Because we have the same Heavenly Father and by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and our faith in His death and resurrection, we have been "adopted" into the family of God.
Don preached a powerful message about salvation and baptism this morning from Acts 8:26-39. Read the passage to find the searching heart, followed by a prepared heart for baptism. Find the obedient servant. Find the 'bearer of good news.'
A very interesting detail that we seemed to have overlooked when reading this passage in the past, however, now that we have spent time in the desert of Arizona, Don pointed out in verse 26: As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” And then in verse 36: As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” 38 He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.
Water? In the desert? An oasis perhaps or did God place the pool of water there just for the Ethiopian eunuch's baptism? You know, God is capable of doing just that as illustrated by the fact, in verses 39 and 40, that Philip was suddenly snatched away (he disappeared!!!) and found himself in another place!
We are thrilled to be baptizing a dear sweet lady before we leave the desert this season. The swimming pool is now open again, after repairs, and warm and ready. We are praying that there will be others joining her in baptism.
Another highlight of our worship experience this morning was our friend Lori Pruit was a guest soloist this morning in both services. Lori has sung professionally and has been blessed with a beautiful voice. We all thoroughly enjoyed and were blessed by her. I was sitting behind her, so it was difficult to get a good picture of her.
Thank you, Lori, for being such a blessing.
Don announced that we will go back to one service next Sunday as folks are beginning to leave and the numbers will be down enough for everyone to fit in the community center without violating the fire code. One service is just better... not so draining for Don and better for all of us to be together in one service.
Tonight was the Sunscape Spring Concert.
Walter, the director of the Sunscape Choristers was also the director of the concert.
The advanced group of Sunscape Line Dancers displayed their talent and coordination to the delight of the crowd.
Who said Elvis has left the building?
Virgil was backed up by Sherry and his son on the bass guitar.
Always a delight, The Campbell Sisters.
They entertained us with two songs.
Kenny sang a couple of James Taylor songs from the seventies.
Straight from the South Pacific, the four male Choristers sang "There's Nothing Like a Dame" in praise of the "weaker" gender.
The female members of the Choristers weren't quite as kind to their counterparts as they sang "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair."
John and Mary are served by their tall, dark Italian waiter, Jerry, as the....
Choristers serenade them with their version of "Pasta."
It was delightful evening of music and comedy as Walter entertained between performances with hilarious comedy, once joined by his wife, Eileen, to perform, "My Bucket's Got a Hole In It." Too funny!
It was still raining when we went into the Community Center, but had stopped when we came out. However, it rained off and on all night.
It was a beautiful weekend.... for resting and taking it easy.
