We arrived at Mel and Vi’s park about 11:00 AM… The Parkview Riverside RV Park near Concan, Texas. Before it got too hot, Mel took us on a tour of the 95 site park, which included a drive by the Frio River.
During the summer, this river is full of beer drinkers floating on tubes. Mel is the security guard for their park.
Mel & Don enjoying the view. Mel says it looks so peaceful will all the vacationers gone.
Across the Frio is the Garner State Park, the most used state park in Texas.
Steps from the river up to the RV park.
In the distance is Old Baldy, a ridge that campers climb and shoot fireworks from on the 4th of July.
We drove the ten miles back to Leakey (pronounced Lay-key) to the Mill Creek Café.
Mel took a different route back to the park so we could cross the Frio River.
Usually, this road is covered with water, but not this summer.
A view of Old Baldy from the Frio.
Back at the RV park, we played a game of Pegs and Jokers with Mel and Vi’s friends, Joyce and Sam. (Girls 2 – Guys 0) Doug, the park owner, invited us to use his home so we would have more room. And it was cool.
On the way back to Mel & Vi’s 5’er, I caught this butterfly, fluttering by.
I just love their “Welcome” mat!
Sam showed us the VW trike he restored. It’s a beauty. They’ve really enjoyed touring around the Texas Hill Country on this.
After a delicious dinner of grilled steak, baked potatoes and salad, we visited with Mel and Vi for about an hour and then we wanted to get back to the Q before it got too late/dark, to avoid the deer. So we hugged, prayed with them and said “see y’all later” … we don’t like “good-byes.”
A going down the road picture.
On the drive over, Don had spotted a picnic area that overlooked the Frio and hills.
I was surprised to find a camp below built along the Frio which…
curved back around and down below us on the overlook.
A close-up of the river in the distance.
We could hear children playing below. The dinner bell or chapel bell also rang while we were there.
A close-up of the huge pavilion revealed kiddos and what looks like an open air pavilion.
From the over-look. The sign originally said, “Do not throw or push trash over cliff. Campers and swimmers below.
As expected, the deer were really moving, but this young buck is the only one we saw close to the highway.
And all in the same day, we are back where we started from. What a good day we had!
