Vidor, Texas to Trenton, GA

We got started this morning from Vidor, Texas, about 7:00.  In about ten minutes, we were in Louisiana 100_4327 and in about thirty minutes, it was raining on us.100_4328

A few minutes later, we were approaching the bridge over Lake Charles.100_4331

That’s a pretty good grade.100_4332

Descending and approaching the beach area of the lake.100_4337100_4338

We were impressed with the beach area of Lake Charles; very clean and pretty with easy access.100_4340

Moving on down the road, it’s now almost 9:00 AM and we are seeing lots of water and lots of green.100_4344

Around 9:00 AM, I spotted geese flying in formation.100_4345

And more water.  It’s not surprising that there are geese here.100_4346100_4348100_4349

Have you noticed the bridge railing in the last few pictures?  Do you see the bridge railing in this picture?  Can you see the end of the bridge railing?  No?  There’s a reason.100_4350

It goes on for miles on I-10.100_4351100_4352Going over Whiskey Bay Pilot Channel.100_4354

The channel is very full.100_4355

The water is almost to the bottom of the bridge road.100_4356We thought we would never get off that bridge!

9:30 AM -  we reached the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge.100_4360

Bridges fascinate me.100_4362

And then the traffic stopped.  A sign said that the entrance to I-12 was closed, so we detoured immediately and found a street that ran parallel to I-10 and kept moving.100_4365

By 10:10 AM, we were back on I-12.100_4368

At 11:30ish, Don announced he was hungry and since we were in Louisiana, he wanted a PoBoy. Found Rag’s Old Fashioned PoBoy in Mandeville on Gabby Gertie, the GPS, so off the interstate we go.  According to their website, the name has changed, but the shrimp poboy was delicious and did not disappoint Don.  The grilled shrimp salad was a great choice for me.

This was the picture above our table.100_4372

While in Mandeville and since we were so close, Don wanted to show me Lake Pontchartrain.  That bridge in the distance is twenty-four miles long and for eight miles in the middle of it, land is not visible… all you can see is water.100_4376 100_4380

This pictures looks much better when it fills the entire screen.100_4379

There were shells everywhere.100_4378

Here are a few of the houses that either face the lake or back up to it.100_4386 100_4384 100_4385 100_4388

This huge tree was amazing with the moss hanging from it’s branches. 100_4391

There was one vacant lot and it was for sale.100_4389

OK, we’ve been sightseeing long enough, it’s time to get back on the way to Mama Trudy’s!

A few minutes past 12:30 PM, we crossed into Mississippi.100_4394

Hey, Joel and Linda, when we drove by Picayune, I tried to call y’all!!

Don drove most of the way through Mississippi and then relinquished the driving to me.  That was the end of the picture taking as I drove the rest of the way across Alabama and into Georgia to Mama Trudy’s arriving about 9:00 PM.

It was a very long twelve hour trek and there is no padding in the Kia seats!!

But praise God, we got 30 mpg and no problems!
