We got started this morning from Vidor, Texas, about 7:00. In about ten minutes, we were in Louisiana and in about thirty minutes, it was raining on us.
A few minutes later, we were approaching the bridge over Lake Charles.
Descending and approaching the beach area of the lake.
We were impressed with the beach area of Lake Charles; very clean and pretty with easy access.
The tallest building in downtown Lake Charles.
Moving on down the road, it’s now almost 9:00 AM and we are seeing lots of water and lots of green.
Around 9:00 AM, I spotted geese flying in formation.
And more water. It’s not surprising that there are geese here.
Have you noticed the bridge railing in the last few pictures? Do you see the bridge railing in this picture? Can you see the end of the bridge railing? No? There’s a reason.
It goes on for miles on I-10.Going over Whiskey Bay Pilot Channel.
The water is almost to the bottom of the bridge road.We thought we would never get off that bridge!
9:30 AM - we reached the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge.
And then the traffic stopped. A sign said that the entrance to I-12 was closed, so we detoured immediately and found a street that ran parallel to I-10 and kept moving.
By 10:10 AM, we were back on I-12.
At 11:30ish, Don announced he was hungry and since we were in Louisiana, he wanted a PoBoy. Found Rag’s Old Fashioned PoBoy in Mandeville on Gabby Gertie, the GPS, so off the interstate we go. According to their website, the name has changed, but the shrimp poboy was delicious and did not disappoint Don. The grilled shrimp salad was a great choice for me.
This was the picture above our table.
While in Mandeville and since we were so close, Don wanted to show me Lake Pontchartrain. That bridge in the distance is twenty-four miles long and for eight miles in the middle of it, land is not visible… all you can see is water.
This pictures looks much better when it fills the entire screen.
Here are a few of the houses that either face the lake or back up to it.
This huge tree was amazing with the moss hanging from it’s branches.
A close-up picture of the moss at another location along the street.
There was one vacant lot and it was for sale.
OK, we’ve been sightseeing long enough, it’s time to get back on the way to Mama Trudy’s!
A few minutes past 12:30 PM, we crossed into Mississippi.
Hey, Joel and Linda, when we drove by Picayune, I tried to call y’all!!
Don drove most of the way through Mississippi and then relinquished the driving to me. That was the end of the picture taking as I drove the rest of the way across Alabama and into Georgia to Mama Trudy’s arriving about 9:00 PM.
It was a very long twelve hour trek and there is no padding in the Kia seats!!
But praise God, we got 30 mpg and no problems!
