Answered prayers

Monday.  Yeah!  It's a new week and time marches on.  This week and October 2009 will be done... over.

When I entered the living area of the Q this morning, Don was sitting in his recliner, just sitting there, instead of at the table with the laptop.  "Hon, are you okay?"  "No, I'm bummed," was his reply.  And here's the story:

Back in August, Don ordered a "free trial" of Acai capsules for me because the online ad was so convincing... just order a months supply and only pay the shipping.  They were so sure that we would be thrilled that then we would want to order more.  Great idea, huh?  I'll also order using my debit card. By the time our orders caught up with us in Texas, the fifteen days they give you to cancel your order before they start debiting your account was expired.  Not only was there two orders, the two orders consisted of two different products, both totaling $65.  Not only that, we didn't learn about the 15 day limit until I opened the order.  Now the light bulb has come on and we realize we've been scammed.  They supplied the toll free number to cancel the order, so I called on September 14th and canceled both orders, getting cancellation confirmation numbers.   Good, that's taken care of.  We chalked the loss up to a good lesson learned.  Not so fast.  The end of September, we received another order AND $65 x 4 was again taken from our account.  I called them again and this time, customer service was very rude to me.  We refused the shipment and hoped they would refund our money.  October.... this morning, again, $65 x 4 is pending to be taken from our banking account.  No way!!!  And the other was never refunded.  So, after my eight mile bike ride with Thelma, Don's morning walk, and our devotional and prayer time, Don and I headed to Bank of America in Casa Grande.  They were wonderful, placed us in an empty office with the Dispute Department on the phone and that young man took our information and said that because I had the cancellation confirmation numbers and the date, our money would be back in our account tomorrow.  He then canceled both of our debit cards and ordered new ones.  Then we were issued a temporary card until our new cards arrive in the mail.  The CS guy said they have been getting a lot of these complaints and most folks don't even realize that they should call the company to cancel.  He also said, the way the company has their procedures set up is legal, but it is not legal that they are ignoring the cancellation request.  I tell you this story to hopefully, help someone avoid what we've been through.  And, by the way, Acai may be an excellent product, it did not do for me what they promised, if indeed, there truly was acai berry in those capsules.  Who knows, they may be the reason I got sick.  Thank You, Jesus, for answering our prayer regarding the $$ missing from our account and for the folks at the bank being so nice.

After all that, we met Rick and Wendy at the Chinese Buffet for lunch, planned our dinner for tomorrow night and came back home.

Since I now realize how far I'm riding my bike, boy!!, I'm tired!!, so a nap was the order of the afternoon.  Pitiful, isn't it?

Great news from John Long.  Here's John's blog post from last night:  http://thelongs-ontheroad.blogspot.com/2009/10/hospital-report.html

John, also called today and said Judy may even get to go home today or tomorrow.  Praise our wonderful Lord and Savior!!

We are so blessed.

Sunday is Here

"Building Christian Character" was the title of this morning's sermon.  Text from 2 Peter 1:3-11.  Before the message, Thelma sang "Jesus, Be Jesus in Me" which led right into the topic and she did a beautiful job.  I encourage you to click on the text above and read, with prayer, and be challenged.

We learned in church that Toma and Jim's granddaughter, Hannah, had been in a motorhome wreck yesterday.  A tire blew out and the driver lost control and rolled the coach.  Hannah was scratched up and bruised, but not hospitalized.  Thank You Jesus!  In fact, the driver had a fractured back and that was the worst of the injuries.  Miraculous.

I felt really good today and sang in the choir.  We had more in choir, which was great and we had more in church, which is always good to see.  Here's a shot I took at the end of the service as I met Don at the back door.Sunscape - end of church service

With George and Nancy, we met Rick and Wendy at Mimi's in Casa Grande for lunch.  I called Snookie but didn't reach her, so left a message for them to meet us, but she didn't get the message in time.  Lunch was fun with friends and the food was really good.

I will insert here the story of Jim and Toma, our newly arrived friends across the street.  They are from Minnesota and big Viking fans.  When we walked out to get in the truck to go to lunch, I heard a football game on a radio and looked over to see Toma sitting in her car listening to the game.  I walked over to ask her why she was listening to the game instead of watching it on TV, as we had just turned it off to go to lunch.  They just had Dish TV installed and they were watching the game and the TV suddenly went black.  She was beside herself, but laughing.  We insisted that they watch the game in the Q while we were gone, so they did.  When we got back, they said our TV was broke, too..... the Vikings lost.

After a restful afternoon, Don and I went for a walk and I grabbed my camera before leaving.  As we neared the pool, I said, "I bet Nancy and George are at the pool."  I wasn't wrong so I sneaked a picture.  I took a zoom up of Nancy, but she wouldn't let me post it, but it really is a better picture of her.   Nancy and George Reid relaxing by the pool

We made our way on down the street to check on Mike and Madeline, who we missed in church this morning.  Madeline is looking at facing hip replacement and she wasn't feel well this morning.  Keep her in your prayers as she goes to the doctor the 30th, Friday.  While sitting on their porch visiting with Mike, I noticed this succulent plant.... 100_3637 with a few tiny blooms.100_3638

Back on our street, we met up with Nancy and George again and Nancy was riding a "new" bike that George just bought her from someone in the park.  It's one that breaks down for shipping.  So, I got my bike and we went for a ride.  Here's Nancy on her new bike.Nancy on her new bikeI have found out that the two miles I thought I had been riding every morning is, in fact, EIGHT miles!!  Starting from the Q on the left of this map, riding up one street and down the next all the way to the right side equals two miles and I ride it four times.  In other words, I ride over and back twice.  I feel so much more healthy now!  Sunscape map

We are so blessed.

Slower on Saturday

Don was up at his usual six o'clock, but I slept in. My "conscience" knocked on the door at eight-thirty, but I was still in bed.  And then Peg and Bill knocked on the door to say "good-bye" on their way out of the park and I opened the door with my hair brush in my hand.  Thank the Lord, she did not do to me what I did to Nancy yesterday.... Peg had her camera, but she didn't have it ready and I threatened her life if she turned it on.  Pictures taken by people like Peg, Snookie and I end up on the blogs.  I like this one better that Peg took yesterday and posted on The Traveling Cardinals.3 Don & LaVon

Okay, so now I'm up so I get ready and get on my bike, leaving Don in peace and quiet to study.  Half way through my two miles, Thelma joins me.  She's already ridden eight miles!

In conversation, Don told George Reid about the great buy he got on a year old small box freezer for the bay of the Q, except we don't have an electrical outlet there.  Well, we do now!  George is happiest when he's helping someone or working, so he and Don went into Casa Grande to get a few needed items and .... voila!

Nancy and George also invited us to dinner at their place tonight.  The food and fellowship was wonderful.  George grilled Cajun seasoned salmon steaks and Nancy prepared a beautiful salad, steamed asparagus, baked sweet potatoes, and for dessert... hot cinnamon apples (that she prepared in a large electric skillet) with French vanilla creamer drizzled over after they were spooned into the individual serving dishes... yummeee.

After dinner we taught Nancy and George the game of Zilch that Joel and Linda Floto taught us last year while we were in Coffeyville, Kansas.  I tried to find the rules for this game online, but to no avail.  Here's how we play this card game, just in case you haven't heard of it.

Four or more may play, but it's best to play with four because you can only use one deck of cards.

First hand, deal one card to each player.  Turn up next card to see what the trump is.

Each person may bid to catch one or zero on that hand.

Next hand, deal two cards to each player, turning up the next card  to determine the trump.

Each person bids the number they think their hand will catch.

Third hand, deal three cards, etc., etc.

When dealing eight cards, no trump is predetermined.  Each player bids what they think they will catch.

Now, start back down, dealing seven cards, etc.

Scoring is 1, 2, 3, etc.  If a player makes their bid, add a zero to their bid, example: a 1 bid becomes the score of +10 if they make their bid.  If they do not make their exact bid, their score is -10 for that hand.

A bid of 0 = +10 if made and -10 if not made.

2 = +20 or -20

etc.

It's a fun, social game.

I received a phone call from a gal here who needs some one-on-one time with us in the near future.  We'll make plans with her tomorrow at church.

Thelma will be singing a special in the morning.  Her songs are always a wonderful time of worship.

We are so blessed.

Not two, but four!

Three days in a row, I've ridden my bike for two miles.  Yeah me!

Also, went to choir practice this morning.

Don went on his usual morning walk/visiting in the park.

We sat outside for a bit watching the yellow butterfly on our bougainvillea bush.

bougainvillea and butterflybougainvillea and butterflybougainvillea

About noon, friends Bill and Peggy Bullock arrived.  We walked down and visited with them a few minutes and invited them to come down to the Q while their 5'er was cooling down.Bill and Peggy Bullock arrived today We made plans to go out to dinner together tonight.

While we were visiting with Peg and Bill, Nancy and George Reid arrived and parked next door to Peg and Bill.  We walked down and introduced them to each other.  I greeted Nancy with a flash when she opened the door.Nancy Reid Nancy trying to hide behind George.Nancy trying to hide behind George

We left them to finish setting up.  We're looking forward to a week with them, catching up with their Sowers' projects and their future plans.

Tonight, we took Peg and Bill to the Creative Cafe for dinner.  Of course the food was good, but we were disappointed that the "kids" only work during the lunch time.  We feel like everyone should experience James and his, "Were you a good girl/boy today?"Bill and Peg Bullock at Creative Cafe The Bullock's are only here for one night and will be on their way to their winter destination in Apache Junction in the morning.  That's not far from here so we plan to see them again.

In what other lifestyle could we make friends with wonderful folks from all over the U.S. and Canada?  Today, not two, but four of them came to see us!

We are so blessed.

It's our prerogative to pout

Thelma is not going to give me a break.  We rode two miles again this morning and then a few minutes on the machines in the activity center.

The rest of the day was spent in Mesa with Rick and Wendy.  Lunch at Joe's Real BBQ in Gilbert.

Back at the Q, the guys won three out of five games of Spades, so now Wendy and I are sulking, hence the title.  We should have paid more attention when Don said this morning, "I think it's time we (he and Rick) give the girls a thumpin' in Spades."  Next time he says something like that, Wendy and I will have a headache or something!!

We are so blessed with wonderful friends.

Update on Judy Long

Don received a call early this morning from Coffeyville Chaplain, John Long.  Judy is being moved to Bartlesville, OK hospital where there are specialists while she awaits a liver transplant.  This move is about forty miles from John's chaplain duties, but he's a trooper (translated means, he does not like to stop until he's done above and beyond) and will have to be reminded to rest and take care of himself so he will be at his best for Judy when she gets out of the hospital.  Please continue to pray for Judy and the doctors and John during this time.

God is good all the time and we are so blessed.

She's baaaa-aaack....

... my "conscience."she's baaa-aack Just as she promised last night at the birthday party, Thelma knocked on our door at eight thirty this morning, ready for our bike ride.  We rode and TALKED for a full hour... until my knees hollered, "uncle!!"

Welcome back, Thelma and Jim.

Folks are really rolling in everyday and it's so good to see everyone.

Update on Judy Long:  John called this morning and said that the tests show Judy to not be in as critical condition as was feared yesterday.  God heard our prayers.  She has been moved from ICU to a floor where she is still monitored very closely.  We continue to pray for her.

We are so blessed.

Urgent Prayer Request

... for Judy Long in the hospital in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Judy and John are CRM Int'l chaplains to the Amazon.com workampers there.  I don't have details other than she is having liver issues, but God knows all the details.  Thank you for your prayers for Judy and John.

Let's be honest.... a fresh, young, beautiful face is a rarity around here.  Well, not the beautiful part, but the young part.  Plus, I've always been enamored with youth.  Anne Marie was beautiful... to my eye, flawless.  I love the candid photo.Ann Marie, Ray's girlfriend

It was a great party.  Happy Birthday, Herb, and many more!

Today is also the birth day of several important (to me) people.

Why chaplains?

Our fellow CRM chaplains and good friends, John and Judy Long are really being "initiated by fire" on their first chaplain "assignment."  Read their blog post for today and further understand the need for RV chaplains:

>>The Longs On the Road<<

You guys are doing a great job!!

[We met John and Judy last fall in Coffeyville, Kansas, while serving as chaplain to the workampers at Amazon.com and introduced them to Christian Resort Ministries, Int'l.  They completed chaplaincy training and returned to Coffeyville this fall to serve as the chaplain there.]

We are so blessed.

Monday & Welcome Back Jim and Toma!

They really are here!! ... Don announced and beat me over to the cactus garden while I grabbed my camera. (Aren't you proud of me?) That's Don behind the Saguaro.

Jim and Toma are here!!!!

Jim coming to greet me.  Cool hat, Jim!Jim... cool hat!!

After doing a little catching up, we departed to let them continue their work in the cactus garden. Jim and Toma working in the cactus garden already!

Also, there was a mountain of laundry waiting for me back at the Q.  So, off to do the laundry.  Don was wonderful to help me... neither of us feeling really great today.

After laundry, we drove in to CG to Rubio's for a burrito for lunch.

This afternoon, we spent inside out of the heat, resting, while I also got the blog caught up.

We are so blessed.

Sunday and Out of the Q!

After being inside for a week (seems like a month), I ventured out this morning for church.  More folks have arrived this past week and more showed up for church. It's great to see the "house" filling up for worship service.  Since I didn't sing in the choir this morning, I sat with Wendy and Rick during church.   The message was from Esther 6:1-5 entitled "Remember Who Is In Charge."  A really good message for our times and circumstances.

This afternoon, we headed to Maricopa (where famous Joe is the sheriff) to set up a CRM Int'l information booth at a Baptist associational meeting at the First Baptist Church there.

About a mile from our park is this veggie stand, complete with "facilities."veggie stand corner of 287 and 11 Mile Corner RoadA little further down the highway, we noticed the big bales of cotton sitting in the field.  Yeah!  They are beginning to get the cotton in.oh yeah! the cotton is being baled!!cotton balesThere is still lots of cotton in the fields, though.bummer, stil cotton in the fields Wild horses in Maricopa.wild horses in Maricopa

After the meeting, we were all served a Mexican meal under tents outside.  The sun had gone down leaving a soft light to eat by and cooler temp.

We stayed for the evening service at the FBC, Maricopa, on John Wayne Boulevard, and heard a tremendous sermon offered by a seventeen year old preacher.  Our prayer is that God will raise up thousands of young men like Trey Van Camp.  He challenged both his peers and his elders to earnestly and urgently share the salvation of Jesus Christ with everyone.  It was very encouraging to hear such wisdom coming from one so young.

We enjoyed our trip to Maricopa, but I must honestly tell you that the drive there and back is the most stinky drive I've ever been on because of all the cattle feed lots and a chemical plant of some kind, like ammonia.  I road the whole twenty miles with my nose covered with my blouse and still, I could hardly breathe.  Dreadful.

When we pulled up to the Q about 9:00 PM, I noticed a car at the park model across the street.  Toma and Jim are here!!!!  I couldn't wait to get out of the truck and then I noticed their park model was dark.  I bet they are so tired from their trip from Minnesota that they have gone to bed early...  crossing time zones is a drag on the body.  Guess I will have to wait until in the morning to hug Toma and Jim.

We are so blessed.

Blessed with Difficulties?

As we continue to ask Jehovah Rophe (God, who heals) to touch my body and as I continue to be confined to the inside of the Q, this devotional truly spoke to me and encouraged me.

Blessed with Difficulties?
from the messages of Adrian Rogers

BIBLE MEDITATION:
Matthew 6:34 - "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
In the crucible of His wisdom and in the ecology of His grace, God has ordered some trouble for you today and everyday of your life. We’ve been blessed with difficulties. Yes, you read that right — blessed! The worst thing that could happen to us would be not to have any difficulties. If that were the case, we’d never know our need of the Lord. So in essence God says, “I’m going to give you sufficient difficulty for the day.” God gives you enough difficulty to draw you close to Him, but then God gives you enough grace to meet those difficulties every day.
ACTION POINT:
Is there a difficult circumstance in your life? If so, thank God that He’s sending it your way to make you more like Jesus. Now ask for His grace to be victorious through it!

AMEN!

We are so blessed!

Share a Smile Today

from the messages of Adrian Rogers

BIBLE MEDITATION:

Proverbs 15:13 - "A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance."

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

What is a smile? Here is something from an anonymous source: “A smile costs nothing, but creates much good. It enriches those who receive it without impoverishing those who give it away. It happens in a flash, but the memory of it can last forever. No one is so rich that he can get along without it. No one is too poor to feel rich when receiving it. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad and nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen.”

ACTION POINT:

When you get dressed this morning, don’t forget to put on a smile. Wear a smile all day from the inner joy that only Jesus can bring to your heart.
Don’t feel an inner joy?
Then ask for one!

Stripped!!

I told you they shaved the blooms off this purple sage!! they shaved it!!!

Friends

Don took me to the doctor this morning.  All loaded down with meds.  Did not have a real good reaction to the Z-pak.... I've given it a new name, but sure hope it kills the secondary infection in my upper respiratory area, anyway.  And I will certainly be glad when whatever is in the air is gone, that is causing this allergy reaction. Forgive me if my sentences don't make sense.

I'm so sad that I didn't feel well enough to go see dear friends, Joel and Linda, today.  They are passing through Casa Grande on their way to California to visit there daughter and family.  We me them in Coffeyville last Fall and Joel helped me lead the singing in church.  There's not a bigger servant's heart anywhere.  At least Don got to drive into CG and visit with them for several hours.  They're just the kind of folks that you wish were your neighbors forever.

Even if I don't feel good, I am still so blessed and I will continue to praise my Lord!

Sunday is Here

I made it through church and even sang in the choir before the coughing started.  It seems being outside is just not in my future for a while.

My sweet hubby made very delicious tuna salad sandwiches for lunch while I lay on the couch and coughed.

This afternoon, we had planned to go over to Stanfield, AZ for the dedication of the free medical clinic there, but we didn't go... just Don went.  This upsets me that I didn't feel like going with him, but I also didn't want to spend the afternoon coughing on everyone.

It was a wonderful dedication ceremony with several churches in the area coming together for a common cause.  They have set up a really nice clinic with about five exam rooms.  Don and I will help facilitate the chaplaincy training for them soon.  The doctor and his wife, Dr. Doug and Alice Parkin, who started this free clinic are wonderful Christians and are very excited about the chaplain training.  God continues to put these free clinics together and we are rejoicing in His grace.

We are so blessed.

Slow Saturday

Knock. Knock.

Oh no. Not again.

Thankfully, brother only wanted his jacket out of the car sitting at our site.  The elderly gentleman made it through the night and and didn't leave.

Don and I drove into Casa Grande for lunch and on the way home, we saw this blimp.100_3577

Just off the main road on the street that goes to our park is this Purple Sage bush.purple sageWell, I should say, "was this purple sage bush."  It's still there, but it's been shaved of all it's blooms just after I took this picture.  Now who in their right mind would trim a bush that is in full bloom????

Tonight, Snookie and I went to the mall for a few hours and finished our night with a trip to the Cold Stone Creamery.  It was Snookie's first time there and neither one of us had our camera.  I know, I know.  You can not believe that both of us left home without our cameras, can you?  Nevertheless, we sure enjoyed our "girlfriend time" shopping, talking and laughing.

We are so blessed.

Friday Fiasco

[Update at the end of this blog.]

By 9:00 AM, I was riding my bike.  It's such a beautiful, cool Friday morning.  I stopped to break off the dead roses from my favorite rose bush in the park.I stopped and broke off the old rose blooms Also, here's a picture of the only apparent damage done yesterday morning, excluding water pipe damage.middle of the night damage Today, the saga continues.  After Don's walk, he reported that the elderly gentleman decided to leave the park again, sometime during the night, but this time he left in his car.  Not to worry, he's in Tucson... in jail.  The Tucson police notified his brother this morning.  More on this later in this post.

There's not only purple sage in the Hill Country of Texas, there's purple sage in the desert valley in Arizona.purple sage at SunscapeI'm still waiting for someone to tell me the name of this bush. 100_3562100_3564

A few oleander are still blooming.oleander bloomsThis is our blue sky this morning.  Can you see the moon going down (in a few hours) and the USAF exercising there in the middle of the picture a little to the left?  The moon is a little to the right.the setting moon and the USAF

Bro. GH and Pat arrived back in the park yesterday afternoon, so this morning, he joined Dennis in choir, making us two men!  Also, in the park this year is GH's sister, Carmen, who also joined us in the choir.Bro. GH's sister, Carmen, joins us in choir

OK, it's 11:25 AM and I returned from choir practice just in time to say good-bye to my husband who was in the car with the elderly gentleman's elderly brother, who doesn't seem to be able to turn his head left or right... and he's driving!  [Reminder to self:  a storm is just another opportunity to trust the Lord and for Him to show Himself mighty on our behalf.]  Okay, I have just noticed that my husband has not eaten anything at all today.  If he doesn't eat lunch, a headache is eminent for him.  I pray they will stop and get a bite to eat.  I would call him, but I don't want to distract the driver in any way, so trust the Lord is just what I will do.  By the way, they are on their way to Tucson, sixty miles away, to pick up the elderly man, in jail, and his car and drive him back.  Dear God, please let Don keep the keys when he gets back.  I know he will have to return them to the brother, at least, but please, not to the elderly man.  Again, I am praying that he hasn't hurt anyone else.  After all, we don't know why the police picked him up.  Maybe they will take his DL away with instruction for his keys not be returned to him.

1:45 PM - Don just called!  You will never guess where he is.  At the Mexico border in the Organ Pipe National Forest/Park, waiting for the police or border patrol to bring that poor gentleman back to them!  And I was right.  Don has not eaten anything.  He said, "I might have a hot dog though, I see a dog walking over there."  Yuk!  Funny man.  So, he doesn't know when he will get back.  When they deliver the "fugitive" to them, they are still a good two hours away.  Stay tuned.

4:00 PM - Don arrived home! Thank the Lord.  He drove the elderly gentleman's car home and GH rode back with the brother and the gentleman.  We have the car and one set of keys.  The police did take his DL and told him he would have to go back to Texas and take an competency exam to get his DL back.  His daughter will be arriving tomorrow from Utah.  Again, thank the Lord.

We are truly blessed.

A little trouble on Thursday

Hmmm.  We had no water when we got up this morning around 6:30.

Knock! Knock!

Who's there?

Oh, guess one of us should answer the door.  Don jumped up first from the computer.  I was snuggled into his big comfy recliner reading my devotional and Bible.

Mary, from the street behind us and the lady who sent me the video of Il Divo, the four tenors singing Amazing Grace (I haven't posted it here yet, I'm slipping... >>click here<<), came in and told us of the excitement during the night.  I hesitate, because I don't want to embarrass anyone, but we ask for prayer for this situation.  It seems that an elderly gentleman in the park thought someone had told him to leave the park, so he followed this "person," and drove his class A motor coach off his site .... with jacks down, slide-outs OUT, and all utilities still connected.  He got as far as the corner and ran into a post protecting the curve, and stopped at the next stop sign because he said the person he was following went into the office, so he was waiting for him.  His brother and sister-in-law live in the park, also, in a different location, so when Don found him this morning, he was with them and still very confused, but refusing to go to the doctor.  Said he had fired his doctor.  Don spoke calmly to him and he was smiling when Don left.  It's now up to the park management and his family as to what the next step is.  As I requested, please pray for this situation.

Now we know why we had no water, but it wasn't long before this awesome park maintenance crew had our water back on.  We are so thankful that no one was hurt and no other property damaged.

Even though I have been inside most of the time trying to avoid whatever is floating in the air that my body doesn't like, it has been beautiful weather here for a few days.  Yesterday was a beautiful day.100_3556 Temps are in the low 80's.  The mountains look like they've been burned, but it's only the shadow made bye the clouds.100_3557 Today, it air was so clear we could see the mountains behind the park that are near Picacho.  I ventured out late on my bike to ride down to Snookie and Bob's.  100_3558

Update on the elderly man from this morning:

Management has parked his motor coach back in his site.  That's all we know.

It's getting dark early here, 6:30-7:00, something that's hard to get used to.

Tonight, we watched Nebraska come from behind to beat Missouri, at home, in pouring rain.  It's rained five inches during the game and there were gobs of people sitting in the stands.  (Isn't that an oxymoron? Sitting in the stands.  Shouldn't they be called "sits?"  Guess it depends on who's playing and how exciting the game is.  Some people never sit down at a football game.)

Thanks for your prayers, emails and phone calls.

We are so blessed.
