Rails, the Cafe at the Depot

Today was laundry day, so we took our five loads in to Kerrville to the Laundromat.  Don helped me and when we were done, we were both hungry.  He had read about this neat place, so we headed to the Rails Cafe at the Depot.

This Events Hall is across the parking lot from the cafe.100_4747

I thoroughly examining this cafe through my camera lens. 100_4752

Don appreciates places like this, too.  We decided the interior had a Tuscan flavor.100_4750

The ceiling tin tiles are so pretty.100_4758

I was so interested in eating my salad that I didn't get a picture, but it was deliciously topped with a grilled Portobello cap, sliced. Don had a spicy chicken pinino with a cup of chicken enchilada soup.  He enjoyed.

However, with this little treasure, I caught Don mid-attack! It's a peach/blackberry/ strawberry tart with a cake type pastry, soaking in a pool of heavy cream... o.my.goodness.

I confess to two small bites.100_4760

The dining patio is very inviting.  With the temperature only about 90 degrees, it would have been very pleasant sitting in the shade. 100_4764

Obviously, the reason for the name of the cafe.100_4765 100_4766 100_4767

Only last week, the old Kerrville library was purchased by the owners of the Rails and the Event Hall and moved two blocks to the property here at the nominal fee of $40,000.  Cynthia, our waitress, said she thought it was going to be restored and used for office space.100_4769

The First Baptist Church building was nearby.100_4770

Back at the park, the holiday crowd had thinned out a lot.  We spent the rest of the hot day inside the Q.  Thank God for air conditioning!
