Hwy 16 and the Apple Store in Medina

I’m pretty pleased with myself for getting my camera ready to take this picture when it came into view, while moving along Highway 16, a scenic route. 100_4912

It’s not a straight highway.  100_4913 100_4914

We passed a huge apple orchard before we got to Medina.  This monument declares the fame of the Medina apple and Media as the Apple Capital of Texas.   100_4917

We also passed The Apple Store.100_4925

But Don turned around and went back. 100_4924

Walking through the store, we soon found the kitchen where the cook was piling apples in a pie pan.  We watched and chatted with her. (You don’t really think we just stood there watching and didn’t say anything, do you?)   100_4918

Yes, of course, Don purchased a piece of the finished product.  100_4919

Have you ever tasted real apple ice cream?  Well, you should.  We were both totally surprised.  It tasted like apple pie and vanilla ice cream…. only better.  The lady at the cash register said they make it fresh every day with apple cider or apple juice, whichever they have fresh, cinnamon, nutmeg and other homemade ice cream ingredients.100_4920

Well I do declare.  Do you know what this is?  I didn’t either, so I walked back inside and ask the lady behind the counter what kind of tree it is.  A Buckeye tree!  And inside those shells, the seeds are poisonous!100_4923

Well, all this time, we’re walking around, looking at things in the store and sharing bites of that amazing apple ice cream.  We were ready to leave and started to the truck and Don stopped at a bench in the yard and said, we can sit here and finish our ice cream.  Busted.  He figured out he couldn’t eat the ice cream while he was driving.  I laughed and we sat down and finished our ice cream.

They also serve lunch at The Apple Store.  >>I hear they make a “mean” hamburger.<<

I see a return visit in our future.
