DAILY THOUGHT

The Founding Fathers of the United States of America saw the need for the nation to celebrate the new beginnings of the country, and they instituted the first national day of thanksgiving. Although the Thanksgiving we know—the fourth Thursday of November—wasn’t made official by Congress until 1941, many presidents between Washington and Franklin D. Roosevelt understood the value of a national day of gratitude. Canada set its Thanksgiving on the second Monday of every October. Other countries celebrate similarly.
This Thanksgiving, as you gather with family and friends, why not adopt that age-old tradition of asking each guest at your table to name something he or she is thankful for? No matter what country you call home, as you ponder your own list of things to be grateful for individually, don’t forget about the blessings your nation has received collectively. All of us have much for which to give thanks.
God, thank You for Your provision for me, my family, and my country. Amen.
