At 10:00 this morning, we went over to get Leslie and Khalil to take them to the airport for their flight to Annapolis, MD. They are going to the wedding of one of Khalil's fraternity brothers from his days at TCU. Here they are at the airport.Back to Round Rock from the Austin airport, we had lunch at the 620 Cafe, which was located on the historic Brushy Creek. So, after lunch, we took a walk along the creek.Of particular interest to us was this site:Behind the above plaque and across the creek was this HUGE turtle. His shell was larger than the lid to a five gallon bucket! He was catching little minnows in the waterfall. And stretched out, it's neck was very long. What you see here is a rock, a round rock. Are you getting the idea this is what gave Round Rock it's name?To prove it, read this marker. Here are two sets of the one hundred year old wagon wheel ruts that merged.Egret, fishing.Under Interstate 35, I felt like I was in a cave. The park along the creek is very pretty.Part of the park is the Round Rock Memorial Park Under Interstate 35.There were many turtle sunning in the warmth of today.Yikes, up on the knoll is a longhorn!!!Another small, fishing. Hope the big turtle doesn't get him.We found a "happy place" in Round Rock for Don. Water. And we probably walked a mile one wayNow this white egret was very large, but I couldn't get closer without scaring him away. He did eventually fly off.We sure enjoyed our time along Brushy Creek. This afternoon, we picked up Camden from at the babysitter and Emma at school, and after a picnic, we took them to the park down the street from where we are parked. You know, I would have taken pictures, but I was too busy keeping up with the two and three-quarter year old red-headed boy who was having a blast. His sister was very excited to see that some of her classmates were at the park, too. While I stayed with her, Papa Doppey walked with Camden to the little fishing lake to see the ducks where he discovered a fresh little black ant hill. Before Don could get to him, he had sufficiently kicked enough dirt and ants on his feet and was stung several times. He hollered a little, but he sure is tough... no crying. Don got all the ants knocked off of his legs and feet and they joined Emma and I again.
When we got to their apartment, it was time for baths and getting ready for night-night. Do you know how many times a little boy can ask, "Where's my mommy? Where's my daddy?" I got real creative with my answers. It was a great day.
We are so blessed.
