Even though the bed was as hard as the floor in our Motel 6(we decided our room must not cost more than it would cost us to drive back and forth to San Antonio; we saved money) room, we both slept well last night and were up early. We drove to the nearby Denny’s for breakfast and then headed to the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center a few blocks away.
We were more than an hour early for Don’s 10:30 A.M. appointment and it paid off. We were leaving almost by the time it was time for his appointment. They got him right in and made the first removal of malignant tissue from his face took only a few minutes and the waiting while they examined the tissue took about 25 minutes. The report: “We didn’t quite get all the affected tissue.” So, back in with the Mohs surgeon and then another 25 minute wait.
“Success. Got it all!” Thank You, God.
It took longer to stitch up the incision than it did for the whole process, almost.
This was one of the waiting areas and corridor to the dermatology department.
Don was asked if he wanted pain meds and he declined. He was advised to put ice on the area of the incision for a few minutes, off and on. Any one want to bet that never happens?
Now, it’s my turn to drive. Don took two Aleve, just in case the local anesthetic wore off and we headed back to the Q.
The rest of the afternoon, he spent in his recliner or sitting outside in my “recliner.”
So far, the pain has been fairly minimal. An answer to many prayers and we give God the glory.
