Happy Father’s Day and travel day!

100_4291Don, preaching a challenge to fathers from Matthew 7:7-11 100_4292

Somewhere in the worship service, we lost Abigail and she didn’t wake up until… 100_4294

she heard the word camera, but she was being coy.100_4295Her mom, Shaylynn was going to play the keyboard for us this morning, but we couldn’t figure out how to get it to work.  After church, Jim came up and turned it off and back on and it worked! Duh.

We gave all the dads in the audience a little “199 Promises of God” book.

Last night and this morning, I got the car packed and ready to roll immediately after church.  It’s finally the day to go to Georgia to see Mama.

We stopped outside of Fredericksburg to eat lunch with Leslie, Khalil and four friends at the Alamo Springs Cafe.  Have you ever heard of the Alamo Springs Cafe?  It’s out in the middle of nowhere, but that didn’t matter.  There was a house full of diners.  100_4297

I didn’t get Pam in the picture, so here’s a good picture of Coach Danny and Pam.  (With mine and Don’s reflection in the window behind them.) 100_4298

We were very surprised how pleasant it was on the porch with the breeze blowing, even though it was near 100 degrees outside.  See the tree branch to the right?  Twice during our time here, a pretty calico cat ran up that branch and through the hole provided in the roof for the branch.100_4302

Seriously, it’s not much to look at.  Just a house converted into a cafe, but the food has a reputation:  #3 ranked hamburger in the state of Texas.100_4303

The #3 ranked Cover Burger… actually this is half of a Cover Burger.  It’s large enough to share.  100_4305

Since I wasn’t having a burger, Don ordered a regular cheeseburger. 100_4307

I had the grilled pork loin over a fresh green salad.  Those are homegrown tomatoes!  With creamy avocado ranch dressing.  Outstanding.100_4308

Another half a Cover Burger.  Leslie and Don were not happy that there was mayo on their burgers, but they still enjoyed it. 100_4309

The fries were chipotle battered and crispy fried.  I did taste one or two and they were very good.  I didn’t get a picture of the stuffed avocado or the onion rings, both were reported to be outstanding.100_4310

A close-up of the hole in the roof provided for the branch and the cat. 100_4311

My picture taking has been interrupted while I drive almost the whole way to our destination for the night.  We stopped in Beaumont and Don took the wheel while I navigated.  This picture is FM 2920.  Did you ever see a 6 lane farm-to-market road?  It’s a first for me.100_4313

Our route took us by the Bush International Airport. 100_4315

Lake Houston. 100_4318

The grass is green here!! 100_4321

Well, we made it to the Holliday Inn Express in Vidor, TX.  Had dinner at Casa Ole’ and “crashed” for the night.

Thank you, Father, for safety and a wonderful trip so far.

Tomorrow: MAMA TRUDY!!!
