A very busy day

We were at the hospital at eight o'clock this morning, ready to get on with this cataract surgery.  Mama's pastor, Bryan Thurmon, came to see her and I caught this picture of them talking.100_1001Next, I got some funny pictures of her after the nurse had given her a valium.  She was laying there sound asleep with her mouth open ever so slightly.  Because I honor her, I will NOT be sharing those with the blog world.  It was hilarious to see her so sound asleep one moment, only to be awakened by the nurse for some reason or another, then she was talking ninety miles a minute, and the next second, she was sound asleep again.  That woman cracks me up!

This is not very flattering either, but she won't mind.  She's still asleep, almost, but very thirsty and hungry.  It's about one o'clock this afternoon in this picture and she hasn't had anything to eat or drink since midnight last night.100_1011Because her cornea would not hold the lens the doctor had planned to use, she had to insert a different lens, which took more time, which required a little more anesthesia, which demanded more recovery time sleep. She experienced only mild nausea, a slight headache and a little dizziness which we all attribute to no food and all the above.  I mean, come on people, she'll be 91 Friday and the only medication she takes is a 81mg baby aspirin... we are going to give her all the time she needs to recover.  So, after consuming two cups of apple juice, a glass of water, a cup of vanilla pudding and several crackers, she is ready to go home.  Where.she.promptly.went.back.to.sleep.

Her eye will require three different drops four times a day for a week.  We will take her to the eye doctor for a follow-up in the morning.  As I type, it's 10:00 PM, she has no pain whatsoever, anywhere, which we attribute to the many prayers for her today.  Thank you so much to all who prayed for Mama Trudy.

This afternoon late, we had a special treat.  Lydia and Blaine came over to see us for a while.  Lydia is eleven and I can not believe how tall she is.  Mama Trudy is about 5'6" and look at this picture!100_1012[Tammy, you will get a kick out of this.]  Ok, we laughed so hard when I showed these pictures to Mama Trudy.  I was so excited to see Lydia and Blaine that I never even noticed that Mama's skirt was unbuttoned at the top button.100_1013Mama Trudy giggled again... Here's our Blaine.  He's seven and growing up so handsome and loving.100_1014You would think that Mama Trudy would be self-conscious about the patch on her eye or that she's in her socks, but she's not.  She was just thrilled to see her great-grands.100_1015 Last week, Mama got Blaine's patchwork quilt-throw finished and was delighted to give it to him today.  100_1016 Blaine was SO proud of his quilt.  When his dad came to pick them up, he said, "Look what Mama Trudy made me!  Feel how soft!"  (the back side is polyester flannel) I had Mama put on her shades so the flash wouldn't hurt her eye, as there are little holes in the patch for light to get through.100_1017

We are so blessed.

In Norman Thursday evening

We arrived safely at Mama's and it was so good to see her.  I called LaNae when we arrived and the whole family came over to see us.  Got big old hugs from Lydia and Blaine.  They are growing so fast.  Mike's elbow looks nasty with a bunch of stitches in it where surgery was done to move a nerve off the bone to relieve pain and numbness.  In eight weeks from the last surgery, he will have rotator cuff repair done.  Ouch.

Here are a couple of pictures of our Lydia and Blaine taken by their Aunt Leslie while they were there a couple of weeks ago for Pook's birthday.

After LaNae and family left, we settled down at the kitchen table for.... yes, you guessed it.... a game of Moon dominoes.

Soon it was time to blow up the air mattress (oh yeah) and go to bed.

June 26, 1918 - 90 years ago today...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAMA TRUDY!

10:10 pm

Mama Trudy has had a happy birthday and a not so happy birthday.  She's had phone calls and cards from family and friends.  Flowers & cards & a meal from her granddaughter who lives in Norman.  A Big Day.  After LaNae & fam left tonight, my brother called his mama from Georgia to wish her a happy birthday and she was already in bed with another dizzy spell ...  she's been having them for three days.  She felt bad enough to tell him to hang up and call LaNae to come back over to her house.  LaNae went back and called 911.  Mama's heart rate was very erratic.... she has had arrhythmia probably all her life.  Unbeknownst to me, mama has been off her arrhythmia medication for months.  I feel like that's the problem and now I am going to find out why.  Just got a text message from LaNae.  Mama is now at the ER and they are doing all the tests, xrays, etc.

Thank you so much for your prayers for the birthday angel.

LaNae & Leslie have planned a 90th birthday party for Mama Trudy for Friday, July 4th.  Don and I will be traveling to Norman on the 3rd, if not sooner.  We need your prayers.

Don's mother also had a dizzy spell this morning.  Geez.  She went to the doctor and the doctor cleaned out her ears and gave her antibiotic for ear infection and that seemed to do the trick for her.

Again, thank you for your prayers.

Expect anything

You never know what you're going to see around here.  This morning, while we were sitting out visiting with Bubba, Don suddenly said, "That dog's driving that motorcycle!"  As the Harley pulled into the park and drove to a site, I jumped up with camera in hand.  Before I could get to them, the man, his wife and his dog had all dismounted the bike.  So, I visited with Lisa McGehee and Shep until her husband, Bobby, came out to leave.  Shep was such a good girl, waiting patiently for her master. 100_6572 They're from Enid, OK, really nice, friendly folks. They take trips all the time on the Harley, with the dog, pulling the trailer.  Don't believe me?  Here's Shep getting her goggles on.  100_6568Now, she's ready to roll. And this is where she rides, usually sitting so Bobby can see.100_6569 And away they go!  Too funny.100_6570  Lucy, Carol and I went to the $100 store (Wal-Mart) this afternoon and did our shopping.  Got a clock for the 5'er and a couple of rugs, plus country ribs for supper tonight.  Yummmm.

Our Diesel had tubes put in his ears early this morning.  Here's a sweet picture of him in the recovery room, taken with his daddy's cell phone. Camden in recovery 6 2 2008 Leslie also posted a picture she took of her grand mother, Mama Trudy with great-grandchildren, Memorial Day weekend.  Leslie published the sweetest post on her blog last night... made me cry.  I call it "Out of the Mouth of Babes."  She titled it "Mommy, I'm following in your path."mama trudy emma & camden   Speaking of children, I'm praying for Angie & Todd Smith's sister's family, the Sponberg's, who are having little Luke's memorial service today.  So heart wrenching.  This family has been through so much.  You can read all about the last week's happenings at "Bring the Rain".... link to the right in my favorite websites & blogs.

Ribs were delicious and we enjoyed Lucy's potato salad and Don's special beans tonight.  After a very humid day, it cooled off around 5:30 and we (Bubba, Lucy, Carol, Glen, Don & I) were able to eat outside and enjoy the evening without mosquitoes.  We do have some really pesky itty bitty tiny ants outside that we are fighting furiously to keep them outside.

I pray everyone has a great evening!

Norman - Day 3 - Are you ready for this?

IS THAT THE SPORTS CENTER THEME SONG I HEAR???

In case your are not sure, that's my almost 90 year old Mother on the back of that Harley Davidson! Mike arrived at Mama Trudy's around 4:00 PM today... beautiful afternoon, temperature about 85 degrees. [remember, you can click the pictures to see enlarged views]100_5857Mike, our son-in-law, tells us about his Harley while Mama Trudy gets her riding gear on. 100_5859 OK, Mama is ready for her helmet and100_5860 goggles.100_5861 I will insert here, that she has not batted an eye about what she is about to do. When Mike called and asked if she was ready to go on that ride he promised her, she said without hesitation, "YES!" and begin to get her clothes changed. After a few instructions, she was on and ready to go.100_5862 They're backing out... and she doesn't flinch one little bit. 100_5863 And this is the shot I got just before I started the video. 100_5864 Amazing! There they go.100_5866They were gone for about 15 - 20 minutes, which I spent calling Leslie and niece, Tammy, letting them know what their grandmother was doing. I was on the phone with Tammy when we heard the Harley coming. She looks just like she did when she left, just a little wider grin.100_5867 After her graceful dismount, 100_5868 I asked her how she liked her ride? To which she replied, "Great! I'm gonna get me one of these!" Meaning the motorcycle. While Mike removes her helmet, they're discussing her next ride, which will be longer and will probably include lunch somewhere along the way. 100_5870 "I can't wait to call Nella (her sister) and tell her I rode a Harley!"100_5871 "Thank you, Mike, that was fun!"100_5872

That's my Mama.
