Sleepover time!!

Out at one of the local RV dealers, they have a koi pond in the front.  The koi are orange and a vivid peacock blue… very pretty.  The water lilies were pretty, too.

Grandkids Lydia and Blaine got home from Christian camp this evening and came over to spend the night with us.  So good to finally get to spend some time with them.

Blaine is ready for sleep on his pallet on the floor.100_1382

Lydia is my sleeping princess.:-)

More fun at the fairgrounds

Saturday is just full of activity at the Cleveland County Oklahoma Fairgrounds.

Can a pair of hairy legs in shorts and boots be classified as a photo opp?100_1349-001

Well, a darling little girl and her goat certainly qualify as a photo opp.100_1371100_1372

This goat was a prancer!100_1374

All of the activity photographed was part of weighing in and prepping for the actual show and judging.  We didn’t stay for that.

BBQ Cook-Off

There are advantages to being parked on the perimeter of the county fairgrounds parking lot.  Today, we witnessed a BBQ cook-off.

Contestants are cutting their ribs to present to the judges.100_1305

Local media interviewed the organizer of the cook-off and one of the judges.100_1306

The ribs are ready!!100_1307

On our way to the BBQ judging, we walked through the flea market area.  Saturday and Wednesdays are flea market and farmer’s market days.100_1309

This judge intrigued me with his large hat.100_1314

Five of the panel of six judges.  The organizer invited Don and I to also be judges, but we declined.  Well, Don declined and I followed suit. Who me?100_1315

I took quite a few pictures of this gentleman and finally got the one I like.100_1316

And the judging begins.100_1318100_1321100_1322

The judges were instructed to take one bite from the center of each rib.  Between each rib, they are to eat a few crackers and take a drink of water to clear the palate for the next rib.100_1325100_1330

The trophy is hand crafted.100_1335

I am not a very good reporter.  I didn’t get the name of the BBQ cook-off organizer or any of the judges.100_1336

I did, however, catch the name of the winner… Wayne.100_1339

After the judging, anyone present was invited to enjoy free BBQ ribs.  Yay!!  Time to eat!  There was one that was my favorite, but I think it won 2nd place.100_1340

On our way back through the flea market, this “work of art” caught my eye.  100_1342

July 4th is also Farmers’ Market Day

100_1300

Cukes, red potatoes and fresh tomatoes.  I like to wash our fresh veggies in water that has a little white vinegar added.100_1302

We took lunch… fried chicken, smoked ribs, sliced cucumbers and Leslie’s delicious potato salad recipe… out to Blanchard to have lunch with Don’s mom, sister and brother-in-law.

Leslie, your potato salad was a hit!100_1303

2 pounds of red potatoes, cut up and cooks to done, but still firm, not mushy.

One bunch of green onions, chopped.

One cup of chopped celery.

Real bacon crumbled… I wouldn’t dare tell you how much or how little.  It’s your call.

Salt and pepper.

One half cup of sour cream.

One half cup of mayo.

We like ours a little on the tart side, so added a dash of white vinegar to the sour cream and mayo before folding into the potatoes, onions, celery and bacon crumbles.

This salad is yummy warm or cold.

Happy Fourth of July!!
